The Wine Selection has been picked to showcase these vineyards and have the same exposure that the larger more established vineyards have on 290 from Johnson City to Fredericksburg.
1851 Vineyards was started by John and Dabs Brown Hollimon but could not have come this far without the support of their family, old friends, and the many new friends met along the way. In April 2013, the first vines were planted, and more have been added each year. The current 10 planted acres include Cabernet, Tannat, Malbec, Petite Sirah, Temperanillo, and Alvarinho. The family strives to use sustainable farming practices to produce the highest quality grapes for wine making.
Bending Branch Winery was founded in 2009 by Dr. Robert W. Young, M.D., his wife Brenda, and daughter, Alison. The Youngs discovered the property that initially was settled in 1840 with a small settler’s cabin that is still on the property today. Bending Branch Winery marries Old World winemaking with modern science by employing cryomaceration and thermoflash fermentation methods.
Pontotoc Vineyard is truly a family endeavor. Carl, an attorney, and Frances, a pastry chef, own the vineyard along with their four young children, Harper, Ella, Finn, and Welles. Carl purchased the historic German Estate in 2003, and immediately began restoring the sandstone farm house and clearing the fields with the vision of planting a vineyard. Having first learned about viticulture while studying abroad in the wine district of Vienna, Austria, Carl had long dreamed of establishing a vineyard in his native Texas. Over the course of a few years, Carl, with the able assistance of family and friends, especially Carl’s father, Donnie Money, established approximately five acres of Tempranillo vines. The Money Family is a fifth generation Texas farming family and takes great pride in bringing the fruit of their labor to your table.
In 1992 the first plantings were lovingly placed in the ground by friends and family, including the Becker’s two sons, Will and Joe. The first harvest in 1995, laid the foundation for what is now just over a 100,000-case per year winery. Becker Vineyards' wine has been served in the stateliest of settings, including the White House and the renowned James Beard House. Becker Farms, Inc. employs 50 people and farms 46 acres of estate fruit and lavender along with the famous Stonewall peach orchards. As you make your way down Becker Farms Road, you will take in fields of native wildflowers, peach orchards, and seasonal hay production.
